Media and Communication

Heidelberg College welcomes applications for a one year appointment in Media and Communication with the possibility of a future tenure track position.

  • Masters or ABD required, Ph.D preferred.
  • Ability to teach media courses such as Mass Media in Society, History and Criticism of the Electronic Media, Electronic Media Production (field and studio emphases); the basic public speaking course; and other communication or media courses within their areas of expertise
  • The candidate will be responsible for the media production program, including development of curriculum, advising and supervision of student staff in the television studio, and development of programming for the local cable access station.
  • The candidate should have a working knowledge of Final Cut Studio and some knowledge of new media production (e.g., streaming audio and/or video on the internet, podcasting) as well as ability to train students on the proper operation and care of studio and field equipment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for mentoring student scholarship in the departmental capstone course.
  • The candidate must be able to work cooperatively in a department which includes communication studies, film studies, journalism, public relations, and theatre; and serve on college committees; and provide other service as needed to the college and the community.

Administrative and Academic Director (Liege, Belgium)

Heidelberg College, an accredited US university will offer the first year of courses leading to a degree in Business and/or Sports Management at the Royal Racing Football Club, Montegnée near Liege, Belgium during the 2008-2009 academic year. Heidelberg intends to develop these courses into a full degree program beginning Fall Semester of 2009. http://www.heidelberg.edu/rrfcm

The courses are offered as part of the Heidelberg/RRFCM Academic and Soccer Academy, and students will be participating in soccer training with the RRFCM club and taking classes in an academic building on Club property near Liege.

Heidelberg seeks an administrative and academic director for the Liege operations. Requisite qualifications include a Ph.D. in Marketing, Business Administration, Finance or related field and the ability to teach undergraduate level business or accounting courses.  This is a one-year position which will become permanent with the development of a four year degree program at the Liege site.

Responsibilities include direction of the academic facility and program operations, scheduling and staffing courses, supervision of faculty and staff, and coordination with RRFCM housing and student affairs officials responsible for room, board, and student care. The Director will be employed by Heidelberg and will hold an academic/administrative appointment in Heidelberg’s Business, Accounting and Economics Department commensurate with experience.

Early Childhood/Special Education

Full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position available beginning August 2008.  Teach undergraduate courses in special education and early childhood education, general education courses and supervise field experiences/student teachers.  Advise students. Participate in department and college work as well as community activities.

Required: Earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education and/or Special Education; ABD in Special or Early Childhood Education considered.  Minimum three years full time classroom teaching experience in special education.  Successful interview and teaching demonstration.

Preferred:  Experience teaching and advising at the college level. Experience teaching in diverse school settings.  Current teaching credential in early childhood and/or special education.

Education Program Chair

Full-time, tenure-track Associate Professor/Professor position available beginning August 2008.  Major responsibilities will be to administer the graduate and undergraduate teacher licensure programs with some opportunity to teach at either level. Participate in department and college work as well as community activities.

Required: Earned doctorate in an education related field.  Successful college level teaching and some administrative experience.  Knowledge of and experience meeting NCATE requirements mandatory.

Preferred:  Experience as department chair, associate dean, or dean of education. 

Note:  Heidelberg plans to restructure into a School of Education and the Chair hired from this search is expected to assume leadership over the school.

Assistant Professor of Anthropology

The Political Science and Anthropology Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Anthropology.  This appointment will begin the Fall Semester of 2008-2009 and carry the rank of Assistant Professor. 

Responsibilities will include teaching introductory general anthropology, cultural anthropology, and physical anthropology as well as upper-level course(s) in an area of expertise that complements the Department’s interest in forensic anthropology, historic or military archaeology, and undergraduate research. 

Qualifications should include a Ph.D. degree (in-hand or expected by the first semester of the 2008-2009 academic year) in Anthropology with classroom and laboratory teaching experience.  Candidates need to demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate research and teaching.  Evidence of successful teaching experience at the collegiate level is desirable.

BAE Faculty & Chair Position

Heidelberg College is seeking an experienced, collaborative leader with the vision to lead development of the undergraduate and MBA curricula and faculty in the Department of Business, Accounting, and Economics. The Chair is responsible for all aspects of Departmental operations and is assigned limited teaching duties. Important current developments include construction of a new business building, development of new curricula, application for ACBSP accreditation, and faculty mentoring. The anticipated starting date is July 1, 2008, however the search will continue until the position is filled.

Senior Research Scientist  

The National Center for Water Quality Research (NCWQR) of Heidelberg College seeks a full time Ph.D.-level or equivalent research scientist with experience in the interpretation of the chemistry of flowing waters and estimation of nutrient loadings and their impacts on receiving waters. The successful candidate should demonstrate potential to lead an established program in land use influences on water quality, particularly in agricultural watersheds. Evidence of grant writing success and scholarly contributions in peer-reviewed literature are essential. Director of Residence Life

The Director of Residence Life is a twelve-month position under the administrative supervision of the Associate Dean of Students.  The primary areas of responsibility include: administrative responsibility for staff development, selection, training, evaluation and residence hall programming; responsibility for the implementation of a comprehensive, residential program based on sound student development theory and best practices; and oversight for room selection, new student room assignments, room changes, damage billing, and the coordination of operational functions for the housing system.  The Director works closely with the staff of other departments within both student affairs and Heidelberg College.
