President's Welcome

Welcome to Heidelberg University!

Greetings to the Heidelberg University Community. 

I am thrilled to be joining this wonderful institution as your colleague and president.  In many ways, I feel that great exhilaration and excitement of being a freshman again!

From the moment that I received the phone call that I had been nominated as a candidate to be Heidelberg’s 14th president, I began learning all that I could about this great school with its rich 159-year history, colorful traditions, and reputation for teaching and academic excellence.  As my knowledge and understanding of Heidelberg University has continued to grow, my appreciation and support for our mission has become even stronger.  I believe very strongly in building student success, enriching lives and helping others fulfill a life of purpose with distinction.

Everything that I have learned – from reading about the history, to visiting the campus and meeting many members of the extended Heidelberg family – has affirmed for me and my family that we made the right choice in coming to Heidelberg.  I have been extremely impressed with the high level of sustained professional commitment and the daily contributions of our distinguished faculty, staff, students and alumni in support of Heidelberg.  The tremendous personal passion that everyone has for this institution has been both inspiring and reassuring to me throughout my transition period and in the early stages of my presidency.

At Heidelberg, we have many great opportunities to build on the current strengths of our liberal arts offerings and professional programs.  The vibrant energy across the campus is infectious.  We are extremely well-positioned as an attractive choice for students throughout Ohio and far beyond.  It is my sincere hope that growing numbers of students and their families will look closely at all that our university has to offer.  If so, then I am confident that they will experience much of what I did when I chose Heidelberg.

I want to extend a special thanks to the Board of Trustees for their confidence in me.  I am honored.  I also want each of you to know that I appreciate the role that you have played in bringing Heidelberg to its current position of strength today.  I encourage you to remain highly engaged in everything that we are doing as a growing institution.  With high expectations for our shared road going forward, I welcome the opportunity to meet all of you as we begin our work together.
