President's Welcome

Welcome to Heidelberg University!

President HuntingtonIt is an honor to serve as president of this distinguished university at this moment in time – a moment filled with promise and excitement about what the future holds for the generations of students who will learn here.

If you spend some time with us, I believe you will discover – as I have – that Heidelberg University is a place of great tradition, great passion, great academic values, and a great experience for our students as they embark on building successful careers and lives of purpose with distinction. The warmth and sense of community here is extraordinary.

Through the decades since the university’s founding in 1850, Heidelberg has maintained its commitment to provide a quality education in the liberal arts tradition. We weave that educational philosophy through all of our professional programs as well. Academic excellence and a profound student experience remain at our core.

In the past three years, the landscape at Heidelberg has changed dramatically. We have built or renovated four facilities and will complete our fifth project in August 2012. The opening of Adams Hall in the Fall of 2010, followed that same semester by the opening of the Media Communication Center, set the ball rolling. Our momentum hasn’t slowed down yet. In the fall of 2011, 120 students (primarily sophomores) moved into the new Residence Life and Learning Hall, the first new residence hall in 60 years. Adjoining the new hall is The University Commons and the Fireside Café Pub, which have become comfortable gathering places for the entire campus. The Saurwein Health & Wellness Center will greet new and returning students in the Fall of 2012 as a place where everyone can come together on the path to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles.

These capital projects are the first phase in our comprehensive Strategic Action Plan key initiatives that were developed around the pillars of Recruitment, Engagement, Retention, Success, Graduation and Return. These pillars define our institutional priorities and strengthen several core components, all based around our commitment to enhance academic excellence and the student experience. We are indeed moving forward, full speed ahead.

I hope that by exploring these pages, you begin to get a great sense of this special place called Heidelberg University. The best way to make that determination is to visit our campus. By meeting students and faculty, you will begin to see what Heidelberg can offer you, and the possibilities are endless!

As always, if we can provide additional information or answer specific questions you might have, we would be pleased to speak with you.

I look forward to meeting you on campus!

Warm regards,
Robert H. Huntington
