What to do When
Advising Checklist
Review the checklist below to determine what steps you need to take each year at Heidelberg College.
Freshman (0-23 semester hours earned)
- Attend a New Student Orientation
- Take the required math and language placement tests
- Visit the Academic Success Center
- Fulfill any remediation requirements based on your placement scores
- Begin career planning by contacting the Career Development Center
Sophomore (24-55 semester hours earned)
- Transfer students attend a Transfer Student Orientation (take the required math and language placement tests)
- Visit your advisor to review your academic plans and complete your General Education and major course requirements
- Explore an internship and/or study abroad experience for your junior/senior year
- Sophomore Career Development Checklist
Junior (56-87 semester hours earned)
- Transfer students attend a Transfer Student Orientation (take the required math and language placement tests)
- Review your degree completion progress with your advisor to make sure you are on track. In the spring return the “orange card” indicating that you intend to graduate the following year and request an official degree audit/graduation summary
- Complete a study abroad or internship experience if desired or required for your major
- Junior Career Development Checklist
Senior (88 or more semester hours earned)
- Confirm your schedule with your advisor
- Obtain a copy of your degree audit/graduation summary to make sure you will qualify for graduation
- Apply for graduation, attend the graduation fair and order your cap and gown
- Visit the Career Development Center
- Talk to your faculty advisor about job opportunities or graduate school
- Senior Career Development Checklist
ALL Students
- Prior to registration, check your registration status, check your account for holds and meet with your advisor to discuss your schedule. Your billing account must be current to be permitted to register
- Review the academic calendar for important drop/add dates and withdrawal information
- Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships each year by the stated due dates
- Review the summer class schedule with your advisor and register for summer classes if desired
- Check your e-mail regularly for important messages from Heidelberg College staff and faculty
- Get involved on campus! Join Berg Events and other student organizations
- Have fun while completing your education – the friends you make will last a lifetime
