Media Studies & Broadcast Journalism

Why study media at Heidelberg?

From the time you set foot on campus until the time you graduate, you will have numerous opportunities to gain valuable experience acquiring and improving the skills every media employer demands.

WHEI-TV 10
telecasts the evening news every weekday from 5-5:30 p.m. This program is produced, directed and delivered by students. Students learn valuable skills in reporting, videography, anchoring and directing, all applicable in the working world of broadcast news media. In addition to providing the evening news to more than 8,000 area homes for more than 20 years, Heidelberg media students have also produced their own game shows, comedy shows and sports programs.

WHEI-88.9 FM radio broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Student broadcasters entertain the Heidelberg and Tiffin communities with music, interesting conversations and news. Sportscasters gain valuable experience providing play-by-play action of exciting Division III competition in football, basketball and baseball.

Internship opportunities

Internships provide training ground for the application of information acquired in the classroom. Our most successful students have one, two or even three internships before they graduate. Although internships are not required, they are strongly encouraged and valued by media employers.
Previous interns have worked at WBNS, WSYX and WCMH in Columbus; WLS in Chicago; WLW and WKRC in Cincinnati; WHIO in Dayton; Miramax films in New York; WTVG and WTOL in Toledo; WUAB and WEWS in Cleveland; and NASA.
