Bachelor of Music: Music Education
The Bachelor of Music Education degree program trains qualified, well-rounded music educators for teaching positions in the public and private schools. Students are prepared to teach instrumental, vocal and classroom music at all age levels, from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
Careers In Music Education
Heidelberg's Bachelor of Music: Music Education degree program prepares students to teach classroom music at all levels, from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. While students in the program may choose an instrumental, keyboard or vocal emphasis, they receive training in all of these areas, allowing for versatility in the classroom.
The program meets all State of Ohio teaching licensure standards and has an excellent placement record. Students experience frequent participation and regular observation in area public schools throughout their four yeas in the program. Additional teaching opportunities are available through the Preparatory Department.
Graduates of the program are qualified, well-rounded music educators who often move on to collegiate-level teaching after additional study.
The Heidelberg Advantage: Music Education
The Heidelberg Music Department has been educating musicians for more than 100 years and is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM.) Our music faculty members are dedicated teachers as well as established musicians who continue to pursue performance, composition and research opportunities. With a low student-to-faculty ratio, music students at Heidelberg benefit from personal attention and private lessons, which are available for no additional fees. Music scholarships are also offered to complement other forms of financial aid.
Curriculum
Heidelberg's Bachelor of Music program focuses on the following areas: performance, theory/ history, musicianship, music electives and general education. This combination of areas offers music students applied study and specialized knowledge coupled with a broader-based liberal arts background.
