About the Festival

The New Music Festival is a celebration of new music, dance, theater and multi-media. Inaugurated as an annual event by Dr. Brian Bevelander, it serves as an opportunity for faculty, students and guest artists to explore new realms of expression in the context of the Heidelberg community. The Festival has grown from two concerts in 1989 to a weekend event drawing on the talents of composers and performers from all parts of the world.

Compositions are selected to give a wide range of styles and musical philosophies. Each year featured guest composers/artists are selected whose music forms the core of the festival. In addition, the featured guests present lectures to theory and composition classes, critique the work of student composers and present master classes and pre–concert lectures for the general public.

This year's New Music Festival is supported in part by The National Machinery Foundation, Robert & Donna Overholt and The Heidelberg Community Engagement Committee.
