Philosophy

Why Study Philosophy?

Philosophy enhances critical thinking, stimulates ethical awareness and provides opportunity for the analysis and discussion of important and difficult issues and problems. The skills associated with the study of philosophy are highly valued by the legal and medical professions, government, education, business and many other areas.

Philosophy at Heidelberg

Philosophy at Heidelberg takes an interdisciplinary approach, providing students with a strong foundation in aesthetics, logic and ethics. Courses address such questions as “What is art?” and “What is the relationship between art and morality?”, challenge students to consider the relationship between ethical theories and personal conduct and explore themes such as “self,” “other” and “the meaning of history.”
