Graduate/Professional School Opportunities

Completing a Master’s in Business Administration program, such as Heidelberg’s MBA program, provides a competitive edge. Research shows those with an MBA are more likely to be high performers, well prepared for the challenges of their positions, promoted sooner and paid more on average than their peers. MBA graduates are in high demand by businesses and command higher salaries.

Some of Heidelberg’s Business Administration majors have also furthered their education in law school.

Accounting

Graduate/Professional School Opportunities

Following the completion of their bachelor’s degree, Accounting majors may choose to further their education in a master’s of business administration program, such as Heidelberg’s MBA program. In addition, Accounting majors may enhance their credentials by pursuing a Certificate of Financial Planning, a Certificate of Management Accounting or a Business Valuation Certification.

Employment Opportunities

Accounting majors can find employment in public accounting firms, corporations and private businesses, government agencies, educational institutions and non-profit organizations. Specialized areas include auditing, financial accounting, business valuations, forensic accounting, managerial accounting and tax auditing. Accountants may even apply to be an enrolled agent with the Internal Revenue Service.

Economics

Students who major in Economics can pursue job opportunities in government; private industries, such as finance, real estate and insurance; and non-profit organizations. Economics majors may be employed as stock brokers, data mining specialists, statisticians, financial or market analysts, public policy consultants, researchers and purchasing managers. According to the U.S. Department of Labor – Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a “rising demand for economic analysis in virtually every industry,” which should be due, in part, to the “growing complexity of the global economy” and the “increased reliance on quantitative methods for analyzing and forecasting business, sales, and other economic trends.”

For those students who wish to pursue a graduate education, an Economics major is a versatile degree that can serve as preparation for entry into economics master’s or doctoral programs, Master’s in Business Administration programs, such as Heidelberg’s MBA program, and law school.
