Why are communication studies important?
Communication Studies enhance the communication and critical thinking abilities of students through direct application of public speaking, persuasion, argumentation and debate.
Coursework focuses specifically on how to build public speaking and communication skills appropriate for various situations that students may encounter in their everyday lives, such as organizational communication, family communication, interpersonal communication and small group communication. Courses specific to a particular area of interest are offered as well. Oral Interpretation is recommended for education majors and those interested in public performance. The Argumentation and Debate course is beneficial to students who seek further knowledge and understanding of argument format, logical reasoning and critical thinking. Persuasion is an excellent choice for those pursuing careers in public relations, business or the law.
What is Forensics?
Contrary to popular belief, forensics is much more than what you see on the popular television show "CSI." Heidelberg offers forensics as a course and as a co-curricular activity that provides an opportunity for students to practice public speaking outside of a classroom environment.
