The Department offers a blend of computer science theory and information technology practice. Students model, design, and construct software; solve problems using techniques in database implementation and networking, and develop effective methods for solving problems using computer-based solutions. You will gain a comprehensive foundation that permits you to adapt to new technologies and new ideas throughout your career.
The computer science major focuses on modeling, designing, and constructing software in general along with the underlying theory of hardware operation and the logical foundations. If you are interested in "how it works," computer science may be a great fit.
The information systems major also features software design, but is geared more toward the analysis of business/organizational needs and the development of software systems/solutions that meet those needs. You will also take business courses.
Our faculty have extensive real-world experience in software development and IT management. Unique to Heidelberg, some of our departmental faculty are also professionals in the campus IT organization, giving students an opportunity to learn from real-world practitioners as they gain valuable skills and experience.
