For the most part, admission requirements are dictated by the host institution, the Universität Heidelberg, and not by Heidelberg University in Ohio. To be eligible for admission into the program, you must have obtained at least junior status prior to entering the Universität Heidelberg (or have sophomore standing and strong SAT or ACT scores), a cumulative grade point average of B or better, and at least two years of college or university-level German study or the equivalent.
In the German university system, students enjoy a considerable amount of freedom, but they must also have to be self-motivated. In an atmosphere where 'learning for learning's sake' is of utmost importance, it is expected that AJY students come with a readiness to adjust to the demands of a new and different academic environment.
AJY application deadlines:
- April 15 for the fall semester
- October 15 for the spring semester
If you miss these deadlines, contact the program office about the possibility of submitting a late application.
Send completed application by FAX (419.448.2217) or mail to:
American Junior Year at Heidelberg University
310 E. Market Street
Tiffin, OH 44883-2462
Once the application and the appropriate references have been received, the staff can begin consideration of the application.
