Among the highlights of the program are the many travel opportunities including AJY sponsored excursions.
The program plans one-day and overnight excursions to places such as the Black Forest, the Romantic Road and Tauber Valley, the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, Strasbourg, seat of the European Parliament, and the nearby Struthof concentration camp, 2000-year-old Speyer, Frankfurt am Main, Goethe's birthplace, or Classical Weimar and the Bachhaus in Eisenach. In addition, students may use their AJY culture coupons to participate in excursions organized by the University of Heidelberg International Office. These offerings vary each semester, but often include Berlin, Hamburg, the Hanse cities along the Baltic Sea, or the Christkindl Christmas Market in Nürnberg.
The program also purchases a German Rail Pass for students each semester for individual travel throughout Germany. Students typically travel to Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, and Munich among other German cities. The German Rail Pass also includes two destinations outside of Germany, namely Salzburg, Austria, as well as Basel, Switzerland.
