MAE Admission Requirements

Applications are processed on a rolling basis. Prior to or following receipt of all application materials, the Director of Graduate Studies in Education may interview prospective students. The student will receive a written decision regarding their admission status. In the event that the applicant has been convicted of a criminal offense (other than a minor traffic violation), the University will require a separate explanation of circumstances. The Program Director reserves the right to make the final decision with regard to acceptance in the Master of Arts in Education program, and also reserves the right to depart from and/or supplement the admission criteria based upon the best interests of Heidelberg University. Refer to the Graduate Catalog (PDF) for more specific program information.

Each application will be processed when the following have been received:

  • Application for the MAE program.
  • Application fee of $25.00 paid to Heidelberg. (Waived if applied online.)
  • OFFICIAL transcript(s) from ALL previously attended colleges or universities sent DIRECTLY to Heidelberg reflecting:
    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
    • Minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4-point scale. (If your GPA is lower than 2.75 you may be admitted as a conditional student and must obtain at least a “B” in each course in the first 6 hours of coursework. Upon evaluation of the first 6 hours of coursework a full acceptance decision can then be made.)

(Please note: transcript of Heidelberg graduates will already be on file.)

  • Three professional dispositions from professionals knowledgeable of the applicant's professional experiences on supplied forms
  • Photocopies of any teaching licenses held, if applicable. (Please inform the Graduate Studies Office if you have none. A limited number of students who do not possess teaching licenses may be admitted to the MAE program for the primary purpose of improving their academic background.)
