Curriculum
Heidelberg University’s Master of Music Education (MME) is a 30-semester-hour (three-summer) degree plan.
Required Courses (16-20 hours)
MUS 502 - Research in Music Education (3 hrs.)
MUS 563 - Music Teaching and Learning (3 hrs.)
MUS 573 - Philosophy of Music Education (3 hrs.)
MUS 574 - Curriculum Design in Music Education (3 hrs.)
MUS 522 - Graduate Theory (2 hrs.)*
MUS 548 - Graduate History (2 hrs.)*
MUS 598 - Capstone Experience (0 hrs.) or MUS 599 - Music Education Thesis (1-4 hrs.)**
* Students who do not pass the diagnostic entrance exams in music history and music theory must first register for MUS 521 Graduate Theory Review and/or MUS 547 Graduate Music History Review. MUS 521 and MUS 547 do not count toward the 30 hours required for the degree.
** MUS 599 repeatable to a maximum of 4 hours.
Elective Courses: 10-14 hours
A minimum of 6 hours of electives must have the MUS prefix. At least 3 hours must have the EDU or COU prefix.
