1942
Verne Atwater, Amherst, N.H., has completed a two-year project, a philanthropic biography, The Ford Foundation in the Early Years, 1956-68: A Case Study of the Impact of Wealth and Good Intentions. The book tells a story of life with the foundation in the U.S. Latin America and Asia, during the 12 years that he and co-author Evelyn Walsh served on the staff as vice president and overseas representatives.
1943
Robert Booth, Tiffin, has been retired for 23 years, but the former Tiffin mayor continues to stay active. He is currently vice president of Blanchard Valley Battle of the Bulge, and an elder at the First Christian Church.
1944
On Nov. 16, 2008, the city of Coral Gables and the Pinewood Cemetery Advisory Board hosted a standing-room-only crowd for a lecture and book signing by Harriet Stiger Liles, Coral Gables, Fla. The event was a celebration of her new book, Pinewood Cemetery, Coral Gables, Florida: A History with Pioneer Biographies. She is currently working on another book.
1951
R. Marilyn Schmidt, Chatsworth, N.J., has self-published the book Cranberry Cookery Complete. The cookbook contains 140 cranberry recipes. She has spent years creating new cranberry foods and refining traditional cranberry favorites. She also is the author of The Best of Blueberries and Beach Plum Jelly-Rose Hip Jam.
1952
Historian Randall Buchman, Defiance, Ohio, was a featured speaker at the second of a series of eight programs to commemorate the bicentennial birthday of Abraham Lincoln in Defiance. He also presented at Heidelberg’s Lincoln at 200 conference in March.
1953
Ken Jasnau has received the 2008 the National Association of Social Workers Georgia Chapter Frankie V. Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been a charter member of NASW since 1955. He was honored for his steadfast commitment to the welfare of others, to his community and to the profession of social work.
1955
Dr. M. Rupert Cutler, Roanoke, Va., has been appointed to Roanoke City Council to complete the term of a member who resigned. He had been elected to Council for the 2002-06 term. He also is a trustee of the Virginia Outdoors Foundation.
1956
Zeryl Ray Ashcroft, Fullerton, Calif., has been awarded the third annual P.R. Officer of the Year by the Barbershop Harmony Society, covering the chorus’ annual spring stage production, Fantastic, Funtastic, Fintastic Fifties show. Also used in the show were two songs he composed and recorded in the late 1950s, How Can’t You Be So Sweet and Rocket Today, a commercial for the Shell Oil Co. He is vice president of marketing and public relations for the Orange Empire Chorus in Fullerton.
1959
At age 73, Marie-Eve (Stanley) Kielson, Winnetka, Ill., is the author of Messengers: The Courage to Rebel, the Power to Inspire, a tribute to the life of her mother, Madeleine Stanley-Jossem. In the book, she combines excerpts from her mother’s unpublished autobiography as well as an interpretation of her major works of art.
1963
After 39 years in Connecticut, Lee and Carolyn (Loucks) Moore, have retired and relocated to Randolph, Vt., to be near their two daughters.
1964
James Staley has retired from his position as traffic manager after 27 years with Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems (formerly Goodyear Aerospace Corp.). He and his wife, Sherrie, live in Massillon, Ohio.
1965
After 19 years as senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Calvin Mutti recently retired from South Church United Church of Christ in Andover, Mass. His wife, Karen (Coppersmith) Mutti, ’65, retired after 16 years as office manager for Laren St. Beahaus Psychological Associates. The couple has moved to Cape Cod, Mass. (photo)

Dr. Patricia Lust, Farmville, Va., is the new director of the liberal studies program at Longwood University. The long-time professor of music will divide her time between her new assignment and the Department of Music.
1968
Stuart Shoaff, Bay Village, Ohio, recently attended a meeting of the Society of Former Special Agents of The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Inc., Cleveland Chapter. Stu’s former football coach, Joe Malmisur, was one of the featured speakers. Malmisur is the retired athletic director of Youngstown State University and former football coach at Heidelberg.
Brenda Jane (Boyer) Grauer, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, was ordained to the ministry of the United Church of Christ on Aug. 30, 2008. Brenda has been married 40 years to Rev. Don Grauer, a minister and chaplain of the Presbyterian Church. They have three grown sons.

Carol (Shanower) Flax, Ada, Ohio, is director of communications and marketing at Ohio Northern University.
1968
Stan Parrish, Ann Arbor, Mich., was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach of the Ball State University football team. He previously served as head coach at Wabash, Marshall and Kansas State and as an assistant at Rutgers and Michigan. He also was on the staff of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002-03 when the team won the Super Bowl.
1971
Raymond E. Leisy, Wooster, Ohio, was re-elected last fall as juvenile-probate judge for Wayne County.
1972
In 2003, Kent Young, South Charleston, Ohio, retired from teaching high school in Springfield after a 31-year career. He currently is an adjunct professor of education at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.
1975
Trustee Steve C. Shuff, Tiffin, was recently appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to the Commission on Continuing Legal Education for a three-year term. Steve is a common pleas judge in Seneca County.
1976
Gwenmarie Hilleary is the administrator at Edgemoor Hospital in Santee, Calif.
Jesse Ramey, Columbus, is a recruiting manager at Exceptional Innovations in Westerville, Ohio.
1978
Charlie Frankel, Plano, Texas, recently joined LBA Properties, Dothan, Ala., as senior vice president of sales and marketing. In his new role, Charlie has oversight of the sales and marketing arm of the organization that provides comprehensive hotel development and management services for 50-plus assets, which include mainly the Marriott and Hilton brands. He has nearly three decades of experience in the lodging industry.
1980
Frank Lamoreaux, Attica, Ohio, is currently completing his 29th year of teaching English and health/physical education at Seneca East. He recently resigned as head football coach after 29 seasons. He has been the head baseball coach for 24 years. Frank’s wife, Kelly (Getz) Lamoreaux ’82, is completing her 27th year of teaching third grade at Seneca East. In August 2008, she earned her master’s degree in curriculum.
Dr. Lon Beery, Rochester, N.Y., was recently chosen to receive the Outstanding Music Educator Award in the category of Choral Director by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, two of Lon’s choral compositions, My Heart’s in the Highlands and Fillimiooriay, received positive reviews in the November 2008 issue of Choral Director. (photo)

Tamie Myers, Avon Lake, Ohio, has received a 10-week summer fellowship from the law firm Schwarzwald, McNair & Fusco in Cleveland. She is a second-year law student at Cleveland State University.
1987
Rev. Timothy Leighton, Hagerstown, Md., recently completed a 10-day mission trip to Honduras, providing relief work from hurricane damage. He is pastor and teacher at Church of the Holy Trinity, UCC.
1991
Dwayne Keeney was recently promoted to senior research and planning analyst at Cuyahoga Community College. He also serves as an instructor in the College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University. He lives in Cleveland with his wife, Shoshana, and their daughter.
1994
Kevin J. Cooper, Toledo, has joined the law firm of Roetzel & Andress as an associate. He works in the area of workers’ compensation. He received his law degree from the University of Toledo in 2001.
1995
Anietra Hamper, Columbus, has been named co-anchor of WBNS-10TV’s weekday morning and noon newscasts. After serving as a veteran journalist and anchor in the Columbus market for several years, she begins her new on-air duties in June. (photo)

Jadie Wheeler, Columbus, received her master’s degree in March from Devry Institute in Management of Information Systems. She is a computer programmer for Franklin University.
2003
Matthew Bloom, Port Clinton, Ohio, earned his Ph.D. degree in history from Bowling Green State University in May 2009. His dissertation is titled Creating Connections: Economic Development, Land Use and the System of Cities in Northwest Ohio during the 19th Century. He will join the Heidelberg faculty in the fall as an adjunct instructor of history.

Rebecca (Denton) Dupuis, Toledo, has joined the law firm of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP. Rebecca is an associate in the litigation practice group. Founded in 1925, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP is a law firm with more than 180 attorneys in Toledo, Columbus, Tampa and Charlotte. (photo)
Keith Fournier (MBA), Toledo, is a partner and director of project services with Meyer Hill Lynch Corp., a computer support and IT consulting firm in Maumee.
2007
Craig LaHote, Perrysburg, Ohio, has joined Lockrey Manufacturing as vice president of sales and marketing. He also was appointed by the president of the Ohio Senate to serve on the Commission on Health Care Education and Physician Retention in Northwest Ohio. Craig completed his MBA at Heidelberg in May.
