OAC Announces All-Academic At-Large Teams

TIFFIN, Ohio—Senior golfers Logan Weiland (Valley City/Buckeye) and Brian Cline (Mentor) and senior tennis player Kayla Gerber (Clyde) headline a group of six Student Princes who were named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference Academic At-Large team, announced today by the league office. Weiland and Cline both earned first-team honors in men’s sports, Gerber was first team in women’s sports, and senior tennis player Bobby Lochotzki (Oak Harbor), and senior Jerry Knapp (Columbia Station/North Olmsted) and junior Andy Lovins (Clinton Township, Mich./Lake Shore) of the wrestling team garnered honorable mention.

To qualify for All-OAC Academic, a student-athlete must be in his or her second year of competition and hold both a 3.25 grade point average for their season of competition and career.

Weiland carded a league-best 72.7 stroke average over eight rounds during the regular season, while Cline tied for 31st at the 2012 OAC Men’s Golf Championship with a four-round total of 323.

In 15 singles matches this season, Gerber recorded a 3-12 overall record and a 2-6 mark in OAC action at No. 2 singles. She also went 7-8 overall and 3-5 in OAC play at No. 1 doubles.

Lochotzki had identical records in both singles in doubles play, going 9-9 overall and 4-5 in league action while playing at No. 1 singles and doubles.

Knapp was 25-16 overall and was 21-8 against NCAA Division III opponents this season and placed third in the 285-pound weight class at the 2012 OAC Wrestling Championships. Lovins was 26-7 overall and 23-6 against division opponents, won the 197-pound title at the OAC championship, and advanced to the fourth round of the consolation bracket at the 2012 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.
