Weekly Athletics Preview

All of the fall sports seasons are underway, with the exception of women’s golf. The first week of action was highlighted by football’s 45-0 win at Alma.  Men's basketball will hold their Alumni Golf Outing on Sunday, with special guest, Jerry Lucas.  For updates on all of the athletic teams, please check the Heidelberg Athletics website and follow @BergAthletics on Twitter.

Men's Soccer - September 6 and 8

Men’s soccer lost a pair of games at the Oberlin Tournament, but were in each game until the final moments. Dr. Brian Haley’s side makes their home debut with a matchup against Kenyon on Thursday. They hit the road to take on Wooster on Saturday.

Volleyball – September 7-8

The volleyball team finished 3-1 at the Ohio Northern University Invitational and is ranked #22 in the latest AVCA poll. Jason Miller and the team head south to the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament in Cincinnati, hosted by the College of Mt. St. Joseph. They will play four games before heading back to campus.

Women's Soccer – September 8 and 9

Despite dropping their first two contests, Nick Spell’s team has played well against tough competition. Freshman goalkeeper Julie Cross (Bowling Green) has made great strides. The team embarks on a weekend road trip, playing at Hanover College in Indiana and Thomas More College in Kentucky.

Men's & Women's Cross Country - September 8

After racing at the ONU Invitational, the men’s and women’s cross country teams will shift down the alphabet to the OWU Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Last weekend, the women finished second, the men finished third.

Men's Golf - September 10 and 11

After finishing up the match against Ohio Northern in a driving rain, the men’s golf team will hope for better weather this week. They will tee it up on Monday in Shaker Heights and on Tuesday in Wauseon.

Women's Golf - Idle

Women’s golf, coached by Dan Hartsel, is still preparing to open their season. Until their first tournament on September 15, the ladies will be on the practice greens and driving range.

Football – Bye Week

Football sprinted out of the gate, defeating Alma, 45-0. The shutout was the first by the Heidelberg defense since 1998. The team will not be in action until a showdown with Ohio Northern on September 15 in Ada.  The OAC named Chadd Williamson and Dan Kilger as the defensive and special teams players of the week
