Weekly Athletics Preview

Tournaments are the focus for Heidelberg this week. 

The Heidelberg volleyball and men's soccer teams match up with the #1 seeds in the OAC Tournaments on Friday. 

Heidelberg wrestling kicks off its season at a tournament in Mechanicsburg, PA, hosted by Messiah College. 

And Heidelberg football will continue its push toward the NCAA Tournament on Saturday against John Carroll.  The university will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1972 football team's victory in the Stagg Bowl.  The game will also be the 1,000th game in the history of Heidelberg football.  Souvenir footballs, courtesy the Office of Athletic Marketing and Office of Student Engagement, will be given to the first 500 fans.

Men's & Women's Cross Country - Idle

The teams will have a weekend off to prepare for the Great Lakes Regional in Alexandria, Indiana next weekend.

Football (7-1, 6-1 OAC) – November 3

After dropping their first game of the year, Mike Hallett's team will look to bounce back against John Carroll on Saturday.  As mentioned above, the game is the 1000th varsity football game in school history.  Members of the 1972 football team will gather for a 40th anniversary of their remarkable season.

Men's Soccer (10-6-3, 4-2-3) - OAC Tournament

A three goal outburst in the first 15 minutes of Wednesday's quarterfinal match with Capital propelled The Berg to a 3-2 win.  They face the #1 seeded Ohio Northern on Friday at 2 p.m.  With a win, Heidelberg would face the winner of the John Carroll/Wilmington match in the OAC Championship game on Sunday.

Volleyball (19-13, 5-4 OAC) – OAC Tournament

With a 3-1 win at Marietta in the OAC quarterfinals, Heidelberg travels to Mount Union for the OAC semifinals on Friday.  The #5 seed Heidelberg will face the #1 seeded Purple Raiders at 7 p.m.  A win would vault Heidelberg into the championship match on Saturday with the winner of the Otterbein/Ohio Northern match.

Wrestling - November 3

The wrestling team will open its 2012-13 season at the Messiah Invitational in Mechanicsburg, PA.
