Hall of Fame

The purpose of the Heidelberg College Athletic Hall of Fame is to recognize Heidelberg College men and women who have distinguished themselves in the field of athletics, either by virtue of their performance on athletic teams representing the college, or by meritorious effort in behalf of athletics either as an undergraduate or in years after leaving the college.

The following members of the 22nd Class of Inductees to the Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame were honored at the Oct. 6 Student Princes football game versus Baldwin-Wallace College, followed by a ceremony on the Heidelberg campus that evening. David Zartman- ’57
Team Manager, Long-Time Service to Heidelberg Athletics

Timekeeper for football team … Scorekeeper for men’s basketball … Member of the Heidelberg Fellows Organization, Alumni H-Association and the National Alumni Council … Received the H-Association Distinguished Service Award … Previously inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame with the 1955 football team in 2005 … Also received the 2007 Heidelberg Alumni Service Award.

Urshie Neal- ’70
Football, Track

Co-Most Valuable Player for the 1963 football team … A leading rusher at half back … Earned Honorable Mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors … Standout performer for the track team in broad jump and triple jump.
 
James Hollman- ’90
Football

Three Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors … Second Team All-OAC as a freshman … Two-time Most Valuable Defensive Player … Two-time First Team All-OAC honoree … Heidelberg Weightlifter of the Year … Paul Hoernemann Award-winner … Named Pre-Season All-American by College Football Preview and Gazette … Received Honorable Mention as a Pizza Hut All-American.
 
Shannan Bowen-Sopko- ’95
Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball

Three-time tennis team MVP … Selected to the All-OAC and Academic All-OAC First Team for tennis … Placed second in the OAC at first singles four times, once at first doubles … Holds fifth place in the volleyball record book for average blocks per game with 1.39.
 
Men’s Golf Team- ’90-91

OAC Championship winning team coached by Dick West … Rob Karnes and Troy Wilson, and sophomore Rick Stone placed second, fifth and eighth respectively in the OAC Tournament … All three earned All-OAC honors … Karnes also was named First Team Academic All-OAC for the second year in a row … Also contributing greatly to the team were Charles “Des” Howe, Mike Pilkington, Todd Bertermann, Todd Bell, Todd DeBouver, and Scott Wolfe.
