Tiffin, Ohio - July 23, 2010 - On July 23 a host of supporters took to the golf course in support of Heidelberg University’s student-athletes. Not only did the participants help to ensure a great overall experience for student-athletes, but a variety of sponsors served as a foundation for success. The seventh annual Back the Berg Golf Outing was held at the Mohawk Golf and Country Club and dinner followed at Carmie’s Grill and Bar.
In a close outing, the foursome of Ron Linhart, Jerry McDonald, Mike Shoen and John Zitkovic shot a 13 under par 59 to take home the team championship. The foursome claimed its second team title in the seven year history of the outing. The group previously won in 2008. Following in a close second was Chad Fitzgerald, Jeremy Ayers, Mike Herzak and Todd Bertermann with a 12 under par 60.
McDonald also added a victory in the long putt contest. Mark Gehring won the closest to the hole contest, while Dena Smith was the long drive winner.
In the team skills contest, the runner-up foursome of Fitzgerald, Ayers, Herzak and Bertermann won with an eagle on hole number eight. Finishing with a birdie on hole number five was the team of Andy Felter, Dean Bogner, Gehring and Sam Bohanan. The group of Bill Landess, Chris Dillon, Brett Buccigross and Jim Troha finished with an eagle on hole number 12.
