Austintown, Ohio – March 10, 2010 – Sophomore right-handed pitcher Sylvester Nino (Willard, Ohio / Willard) of the Heidelberg University baseball team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 10, 2010. Nino is earning his first pitcher of the week accolade of his career, as well as the first honor for the 2010 baseball season.
Last week Heidelberg, ranked fifth according to D3baseball.com, posted a 5-0 record at the 2010 Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Nino assisted with the unblemished record, throwing a three-hitter against fellow nationally-ranked Carthage College. In a 3-1 victory, Nino struck out five, did not allow a run, while walking just one. At the time of the game, Heidelberg stood eighth in the nation, while Carthage was ninth.
The game versus Carthage was the first start and appearance on the year for Nino.
