Austintown, Ohio – April 5, 2010 – Sophomore outfielder Ricardo Lizcano (Toledo, Ohio / Roy. C. Start) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the week of April 5, 2010. Lizcano is a member of the nationally ranked Heidelberg University baseball team and is the third ’Berg player to pick up an OAC weekly honor. Junior closer Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) and sophomore right-handed pitcher Sylvester Nino (Willard, Ohio / Willard) have been tabbed the OAC Pitchers of the Week earlier this season.
In a 4-1 week for the Berg Lizcano led the way with a .750 batting average. He had 15 hits in 20 at bats and knocked in 15 runs, while scoring 15 of his own. Of his 15 hits, seven were for extra bases, including five doubles and two home runs. In the field he had a 1.000 fielding percentage in 16 chances. He registered multiple hits in all five games, and stretched his hitting streak to 17 games.
The week opened for the Berg with a doubleheader sweep of Manchester College on Tuesday. Heidelberg won game one 14-11 and game two 20-14. In game one, Lizcano finished 3-for-4 with six runs batted in, four runs scored, two doubles and a home run. He returned in the night cap to finish a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs scored, three RBI and a double. Not to be outdone, in game two, Lizcano stepped on the mound and threw 1.0 inning and did not allow a run and struck out two.
On Wednesday, in an 11-1 win over Wittenberg University, Lizcano went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double. He added four RBI and two runs scored.
Lizcano concluded his week going 2-for-4 with a two runs scored and an RBI in a 10-5 win in game one over Muskingum University and was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a double and an RBI in a 12-10 game two setback to the Muskies.
For the season Lizcano leads the Berg in batting average (.482), hits (40), runs scored (36), runs batted in (35) and home runs (5). He shares the team-lead with two triples and is second with 11 doubles.
Heidelberg stands at 17-3 overall and is 1-1 in the OAC. The Berg is next in action on Tuesday, April 6 against Denison University. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. at Peaceful Valley.
