WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster scored the tying run with two outs in bottom of the ninth and scored in the 10th inning to defeat the Heidelberg University baseball team 4-3 on Wednesday.
'Berg starter Chris Thomas (Canton/Perry) allowed two runs and eight hits over six innings.
Heidelberg (19-19) scored a single run in three of the first four innings.
In the first, Derek Hug (Bryan) doubled home Joe Staab (Bellville/Clear Fork). After the Fighting Scots tied up the game in the bottom of the first, trevor Oldham (Akron/Hoban) scored on a basehit by Staab.
The Student Princes extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth when Staab singled home Andrew Zenczak (Brunswick).
Trailing 3-2 in the ninth, pinch hitter Shane Gallagher hit a game-tying RBI single down the left field line off of Tyler Fruhwirth (Beavercreek), spoiling 'Berg head coach Matt Palm's return to his alma mater.
After a runner's interference call ended Heidelberg's half of the 10th, Wooster's Bryan Miller hit a walk-off single off of Fruhwirth.
The loss extended Heidelberg's losing streak to a season high six games.
The Student Princes travel to Capital on Saturday for the regular season finale. Heidelberg holds onto slim hope of clinching a berth in the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament. The Berg needs to sweep the Crusaders, Muskingum to sweep Mount Union and Ohio Northern to lose at least one game at John Carroll.
First pitch from Bexley is slated for 1 p.m.
