Arbogast Recognized for his Positive Influence

Tiffin, Ohio – July 21, 2010 – Serving as a positive role model not only on the Heidelberg University campus, but also within the Tiffin community is Derrick Arbogast (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert). For his dedication to stand out as a positive influence to those around him the junior offensive lineman on the Berg football team has been selected as a nominee for the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Arbogast is one of 112 student-athletes across the nation, at all levels of college football, up for the final 22-player Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, which will be announced in September. Allstate Insurance and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) sponsor the award.

The award represents the areas of giving back and volunteerism. It represents the “best of the best” among more than 50,000 student-athletes participating in football at four-year institutions. The honor has been acknowledged as one of the top community service awards in college football.

Sports information directors on behalf of their schools and a special voting panel consisting of former Good Works Team members submitted nominees. Prominent college football media members will select two 11-player Good Works Teams. One team will consist of student-athletes from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and another representing student-athletes from the NCAA Football Championship subdivision, Divisions II, III and the NAIA.

While at Heidelberg, Arbogast is studying education and has been named to the Dean’s List every semester. He was honored as a Heidelberg Bill Landess Scholar-Athlete in each of his first two seasons.

Arbogast is active on campus in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Heidelberg’s Monday Night Campus Fellowship and is a leader of Heidelberg’s Men’s Bible Study. He has served as a student ambassador to local elementary schools, working with at risk youth. Arbogast also volunteers his time with the Seneca County Opportunity Center and serves as a guest reader for children at Old Fort Elementary School during its community outreach night.

On the field, Arbogast has started at offensive tackle in 14 of the 20 games he has appeared in. In 2009 he landed a spot on the All-Academic Ohio Athletic Conference Team, as well as the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Second Team. He has been elected to the Heidelberg Football Leadership Council and has paved the way for three all-league selections at running back over the course of the last two seasons.

Arbogast joins a handful of teammates to be honored this summer for their hard work and dedication. Earlier this month fellow offensive lineman senior Nathan Kater (Villa Hills, Ky. / Covington Catholic) was tabbed a Preseason All-American by D3football.com, while senior quarterback Andrew Miller (Dalton, Ohio / Dalton) and senior wide receiver Mike Preston (Maple Heights, Ohio / Euclid) were named to the OhioCollegeFootball.com watch list at their respective positions.
