Tiffin, Ohio - July 26, 2011 – Heidelberg University alumni, Mike Preston ‘11 (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid), has signed on as a non-drafted free-agent wide receiver with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. Since the close of the Heidelberg football season, Preston has been pursuing his NFL dreams.
In April, Preston was selected to work out and showcase his talents in front of the Cleveland Browns staff and personnel. Upon graduation in May, he went on to compete with the Utah Blaze in the Arena Football League.
“Ecstatic,” said Preston, “happy to have the opportunity and happy to be able to make a name for Division III and ‘Berg Football.”
Preston led the Berg with 1,213 receiving yards on 76 receptions. He started all 10 games and hauled in 15 touchdown passes to lead the team as well. For the year he finished with 90 points to sit atop the team. Within the OAC, Preston led the way with 7.60 receptions per game and an average of 121.3 yards an outing. He was second in receiving touchdowns.
During his time at the Berg, Preston was a highly decorated student-athlete. He earned three All-American honors on the year, and was tabbed the OAC’s Ed Sherman Most Outstanding Receiver, as well as earning a nod on the OAC First Team, the OhioCollegeFootball.com First Team and the D3Football.Com North Region Second Team.
“We’re really happy,” said Heidelberg Head Coach Mike Hallett, “He’s a guy that with the amount of work and development he put in over the years earned him this opportunity.”
