Tiffin, Ohio – December 9, 2010 – Two members of the Heidelberg University football team were named to the D3Football.com North Region Team. Senior right guard Nate Kater (Villa Hills, Ky. / Covington Catholic) earned a spot on the first team offense, while fellow classmate, and wide receiver, Mike Preston (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid) was named to the second team offense. It is the sixth annual all-region team released by D3Football.com.
It is the second consecutive year that Kater has earned All-Region honors from D3Football.com. This recognition joins his nod on the OhioCollegeFootball.com All-Region First Team Offense and his selection as the Ohio Athletic Conference’s Ken Wable Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman and his second straight first team nod for the league. In his final campaign, he helped to build a foundation for the Berg to set over a combined 20 team and individual records on the year.
Saving his best season for last was Preston. His all-region nod by D3Football.com is his first of his career and joins his selection to the OhioCollegeFootball.com All-Region First Team. He was also voted the OAC’s Ed Sherman Most Outstanding Receiver after earning a spot on the All-OAC First Team for the second straight year. Preston will graduate as Heidelberg’s career leader in receiving yards (2,748) and receiving touchdowns (27). This season he set new ’Berg single season records for receiving yards (1,213) and receiving touchdowns (15).
Heidelberg, under the guidance of fourth-year head coach Mike Hallett, closed out the year winners of three of its last four outings to stand at 5-5 overall. Its .500 record marked the best season at the Berg since posting an identical mark in 1997.
