Heidelberg to Celebrate Community Day with Home Game Against No. 2 Mount Union

TIFFIN, Ohio—Heidelberg University will celebrate Community Day on campus Saturday, Oct. 15 when the football team hosts No. 2 University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at Mayer Field at 1:30 p.m. Admission to the game is free and fans will have the opportunity to meet Sesame Street executive producer Carol-Lynn Parente and have their photograph taken with Elmo.

The Tiffin and surrounding communities are invited to take part in a pregame tailgate next to Mayer Field from 12:30-2 p.m. In addition, children can enjoy several activities at the tailgate with students from Heidelberg’s education department. Attendees should bring their own camera to have their photograph taken.

Parking will be available in Heidelberg lots near the field or in the National Machinery parking lots on Greenfield St. Food will also be available for purchase inside Mayer Field.

In the event of inclement weather, the tailgate will be relocated to Seiberling Gymnasium, located next to Mayer Field.

Additionally, Saturday’s game is also designated as a ‘Berg Pride Event, in which fans can purchase incentive-based cards and t-shirts supporting Heidelberg Athletics. A ‘Berg Pride Card and a t-shirt can be purchased separately for $10 each or bought together for $15. ‘Berg Pride cards and t-shirts are available at most designated ‘Berg Pride events or by calling the athletics offices at (419) 448-2019.

The ‘Berg Pride card offers discounts and other promotional items at several restaurants and stores in the Tiffin area, including Burger King, Wendy’s, Fort Ball Pizza Palace, AJ’s Heavenly Pizza, Jack & Do’s, Reino’s, Clover Club, Carmie’s, Madison Street Tavern, GW’s Fine Food & Spirits, Shell Shuckers, Happy Garden, University Diner, IHOP, Champ’s Barber Shop, the Heidelberg Bookstore, Tiffin Ford – Lincoln, Lee’s Famous Fried Chicken, City Barbeque, Paulette’s, Pioneer Quick Lube, Big Boy, Fireside Café Pub, Bad Addiction Tattoo Studio, Pit Stop, First Choice Haircutters, Fricker’s, Buffalo Wild Wings and Viewpoint Graphics.

The Student Prince football team, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Mike Hallett, is 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the OAC for the first time since beginning the 1993 season 5-0 and 4-0 in the conference, and received votes (two) for the first time in this week’s American Football Coaches Association top-25 poll. Mount Union, 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the OAC, is ranked second for the 14th consecutive week since the start of the 2010 season.

Fans are also invited to attend Saturday evening’s volleyball match between No. 6 Heidelberg and Mount Union at Seiberling Gymnasium at 7 p.m.

The next home football game, against Wilmington College on Saturday, Oct. 29, will promote youth football in the Tiffin area. Children and their parents are invited to attend the game. Children will receive free admission with their football jerseys and parents will receive two tickets for the price of one.
