TIFFIN, Ohio – Heidelberg University junior free safety Chadd Williamson (Land ‘O Lakes, FL/Land ‘O Lakes) and senior kicker Dan Kilger (Novi, MI/Novi) were named Ohio Athletic Conference defensive and special teams player of the week, respectively. The announcement by the league comes after Heidelberg’s opening win at Alma College, 45-0.
Williamson had nine tackles against the Scots, including eight solo tackles. He also recorded one sack for a loss of nine yards. He was active in the pass and run defense, which held Alma to 231 yards of total offense.
“It looked like Chadd was playing at a different speed than everyone else,” said head coach Mike Hallett. “He was a disruptive force in all facets of the g
ame.”
For Kilger, this is his fourth OAC player of the week honor. Against Alma, Kilger connected on a 24 yard field goal and all five of his extra point tries. He averaged 58.1 yards per kickoff. In 2011, Kilger was named player of the week three times.
“Danny is a great example of a consistent kicker,” said Hallett. “He is a great weapon for our offense and is critical for our special teams. His kickoffs helped create long fields for the Alma offense.”
The Heide
lberg football team is idle this week, preparing for their OAC opening game in Ada against Ohio Northern on September 15. The kickoff for the game has been moved back to 2:15 p.m. to accommodate the pre-game festivities for the Polar Bears, who will be celebrating Military Appreciation Day.
The game also marks the second Bendekovic Bowl, in commemoration of the late Ronnie and Jason Bendekovic. Ronnie and Jason were assistant coaches at Ohio Northern and Heidelberg, respectively.
