Lowe, Keen are Two-Time All-Americans

Sophomores Gar Keen (Sparta, Ohio / Highland) and Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) of the nationally ranked Heidelberg University baseball team were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-American Third Team. The All-Americans were announced in conjunction with the 2009 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship in Grand Chute, Wisc.

The postseason honors continue to accumulate for the nationally ranked Heidelberg University baseball team. Sophomore closer Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) was named a D3baseball.com Second Team All-American, while fellow classmate second baseman Gar Keen (Sparta, Ohio /Highland) was an Honorable Mention All-American.
 
Lowe and Keen’s honors are the first Heidelberg All-Americans as selected by D3baseball.com. Five Land on Academic All-OAC List

The nationally-ranked Heidelberg University baseball team not only displayed hard work and dedication on the field in 2009, but doubled up its work ethic in the classroom. The Berg landed a program-best five student-athletes on the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference list. Senior Biagio Boytim (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), junior Steve Decker (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield), along with sophomores Willie Brechun (Canton, Ohio / Canton Central Catholic) and Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) were tabbed first team honorees, while sophomore Nathan James (Rockport, Ind. / South Spencer) earned honorable mention accolades.
 
Ten years ago Matt Palm took over the Berg baseball program and has led the team to a handful of academic honors. Since 2000, Heidelberg baseball has placed a student-athlete on every Academic All-OAC team. Its five academic selections are the most ever in a single year for Heidelberg, toppings its previous best of four in 2000.
