Lash Hits into an OAC Weekly Honor
Freshman short stop Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) of the Heidelberg College baseball team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week of March 31, 2008. It is Lash’s first hitter of the week honor of his career.
In a 4-0 week for Heidelberg, Lash led the team with a .667 batting average, which included a team-best eight hits in 12 at bats. He also topped the stat sheet in RBI with nine, slugging percentage (.917) and on base percentage (.667). He also scored two runs, while knocking a double and a triple.
Lash opened the week on an impressive note, going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored in Heidelberg’s 14-3 win at Ohio Wesleyan last Tuesday. He recorded his first collegiate triple in the process.
On Thursday, in a 7-2 win over Case Western Reserve University at Peaceful Valley, Lash finished with a two-run double and five assists and a put out.
Last week closed with two Heidelberg shutout victory’s over Muskingum College, 4-0 and 4-0, on Saturday. In game one, the newcomer to the OAC was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI. He returned to the diamond in game two and went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
For the year, Lash has started all 16 games he has played in and leads the team with 19 runs batted in. He ranks second on the team in batting average (.396), hits (21) and on base percentage (.439), while standing tied for second with 14 runs scored.
Heidelberg, under the guidance of ninth-year head coach Matt Palm, boasts an overall record of 13-4 and a 2-2 league mark. The team will begin a three-game break from conference action this week when it entertains Ohio Wesleyan April 1 and then will travel to Division II the University of Findlay April 2 and to Wittenberg University April 3. Heidelberg’s contest at Findlay marks the beginning of five-straight on the road.
