Lash Repeats as OAC Hitter of the Week

For the second-consecutive week freshman shortstop Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) of the Heidelberg College baseball team was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week. Lash earned the award for the week of April 7, 2008 as announced by the conference office.

In five games last week where Heidelberg posted a 4-1 record, Lash hit .667 courtesy of 10 hits in 15 at bats. It was the second-straight week that he hit .667. He also led the team with a .684 on base percentage, while sharing team honors with six runs scored. He also tallied six RBI and a .733 slugging percentage.

The week began for Lash with a 3-for-3 outing, with two RBI and a run scored at Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday. The Berg went on to win 11-10 in its final at bat.

On Wednesday, in a 9-6 win at Division II the University of Findlay, Lash finished with a hit, to go along with two runs scored and an RBI.

Thursday, Heidelberg traveled to Wittenberg University and suffered a 9-5 setback. Lash went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a double.

The week closed out with a league doubleheader on Sunday at nationally-ranked Otterbein College. In two games, Lash finished 3-for-6, with three runs scored and an RBI.

For the year, Lash is currently in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak which dates back to March 25. Seven of the nine games in his streak has produced multiple hits. He leads Heidelberg in batting average (.456), RBI (25) and on base percentage (.500), while standing second in hits (31) and runs scored (20). He has tallied six extra base hits on the year, including five doubles.

Heidelberg, under the guidance of ninth-year head coach Matt Palm, currently boasts an overall record of 17-5 and a 4-2 league mark. The Berg has won eight of its last 10 outings and returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 9 at Capital University for an OAC doubleheader. On Thursday, April 10 Heidelberg will once again step away from OAC play to face Denison University. The game with Denison will be played at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark, the four-year home of the Cincinnati Reds.
