Gossman Tabbed OAC Co-Pitcher of the Week

For the third consecutive week a member of the Heidelberg College baseball team has been honored by the Ohio Athletic Conference. Freshman left-handed pitcher Jake Gossman (Westerville, Ohio / South) has been tabbed the OAC Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 14, 2008. He shares the honor with Baldwin-Wallace College’s Jim Jaskowak. Gossman joins fellow classmate Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) as a player of the week honoree for the 2008 season. Lash was named the OAC Hitter of the Week the two weeks prior.

Last week, Gossman helped lead Heidelberg to a 5-1 win at Capital University on Wednesday. He pitched a complete game, 7.0 innings, to improve to 3-1 on the year. He gave up just four hits and one unearned run, while striking out seven.

For the year, Gossman has a 1.67 earned run average, good enough for second on the Berg pitching staff. He also ranks second with 30 strike outs to his credit. Gossman has made five appearances on the mound, including four starts, for a total of 27.0 innings of work. He has given up just 15 hits.

Heidelberg, under the guidance of ninth-year head coach Matt Palm, currently boasts an overall record of 22-5 and an 8-2 league mark. On Monday the Berg swept then conference leading Mount Union College to move into a two-way tie for first in the OAC standings with Marietta College. Heidelberg has won 12 of its last 13 contests, including seven-consecutive heading into its April 15th doubleheader with Ohio Northern University.
