Lowe Named OAC Co-Pitcher of the Week
Freshman right-handed pitcher Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) of the Heidelberg College baseball team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 21, 2008. Lowe shares the honor with Muskingum’s Levi Shaw.
Lowe is the third player out of a talented pool of newcomers to the Heidelberg team in 2008 that have garnered an OAC weekly honor. Jake Gossman (Westerville, Ohio / South) was named a co-recipient of the pitcher of the week award last week, while Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) has been a two-time winner of the OAC Hitter of the Week award.
Over the course of last week Heidelberg posted a 5-2 record to improve to 25-7 on the year and 11-3 in league play. The Berg also overtook the top spot in the league standings.
On Monday, Lowe emerged from the bullpen to throw 7.2 innings in relief and led the Berg to an eventual 5-4 win in 11 innings. Against the Purple Raiders, Lowe gave up just three hits and no runs, while striking out four batters to earn his first collegiate victory.
Lowe appeared on the mound again on Saturday in game one of a doubleheader at Baldwin-Wallace College. He threw 1.1 innings and gave up just one hit and no runs. Along the way he struck out two in the 18-3 win.
For the year, Lowe has made 11 appearances on the mound for Heidelberg. He owns a 1-0 record and a 2.62 earned run average. He has pitched 24.0 innings and has picked up 18 strike outs.
