Lowe Repeats as OAC Pitcher of the Week

For the second-consecutive week freshman right-handed pitcher Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) of the No. 24 Heidelberg College baseball team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. He has earned the honor for the week of April 28, 2008. Overall it is the fifth-consecutive week that Heidelberg has been amongst the weekly award winners in the OAC and it is the third-straight week a ’Berg pitcher has excelled. Lowe also joins fellow classmate Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) as a multiple award winner.

In a 4-0 week for Heidelberg, Lowe picked up a win and a save in two appearances. Overall he threw 8.2 innings, striking out eight, while giving up three hits and no runs.

Lowe’s first appearance on the week came in relief at No. 7 the College of Wooster on Wednesday. He pitched 5.0 innings of one-hit scoreless baseball to earn the win. Along the way he struck out six batters.

In game two of a doubleheader against Wilmington College on Saturday, Lowe came out of the bullpen once again with Heidelberg holding a slim lead. Through 3.2 innings of work, Lowe gave up just two hits and stuck out two to help seal the Berg victory.

For the year, Lowe boasts a 1.93 earned run average in 32.2 innings of work. He has given up seven earned runs in 13 appearances. Overall he has struck out 26 batters to stand at 2-0 and has picked up four saves.

Heidelberg, under the guidance of ninth-year head coach Matt Palm, currently stands in first in the league standings by a game with two games remaining in the regular season. The winner of the regular season will earn the right to host the OAC Tournament. Heidelberg has won the regular season in 2003 and 2007, while claiming the tournament title in 2004.
