Wentworth Tabbed an All-American to Close Out 2008

Junior center fielder Jeremy Wentworth (Johnstown, Ohio / St. Charles) of the Heidelberg College baseball team has been tabbed a Division III Third Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The honor was bestowed upon Wentworth in conjunction with the World Series currently taking place in Appleton, Wisc.

Wentworth is just the fourth All-American in the history of the Berg baseball program and the first since A.J. Schela in 2006. He joins Schlea, along with Jon Hatfield (2003) and Kyle Bachman (1991) as All-Americans.

In 2008 Wentworth helped guide Heidelberg to one of its most successful seasons. The Berg compiled an overall record of 41-10 and posted a 15-3 Ohio Athletic Conference mark to claim its second-consecutive, third overall, regular season championship. For the first time Heidelberg claimed the OAC Tournament title in the same season and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. On the year Heidelberg set 12 team records, including the record for wins and winning percentage.

Wentworth earned a spot on the All-American ballot following being named to the Mideast Region First Team. His all-region selection joined with his nods on the All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team and the OAC All-Tournament Team.

Wentworth led the team in hits (86), runs scored (57), triples (7), on base percentage (.532), stolen bases (20) and on base percentage (.491). He was equally impressive in the field posting a 1.000 fielding percentage with 103 putouts and four assists. Wentworth stood second on the team in batting average (.420) and fourth in RBI (31). Within the OAC Wentworth led the way in runs scored, hits and triples, while also standing in the top-five in batting average, on base percentage, total bases (109) and stolen bases.

He concluded the year with his named inked all over the single season record book. He tied for a new record in games played (51) and fielding percentage, while setting new marks in at bats (205), runs scored, hits and triples.
