Baseball Continues to Roll at Snowbird Classic

The Heidelberg University baseball team had 15 players record a hit en route to a 20-1 victory over Bluffton University on day four of its trip to Port Charlotte, Fla. for the Snowbird Classic.
 
Heidelberg, ranked fifth in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, stands at 4-0 overall and has outscored its opponents 72-3. In four outings, Heidelberg has picked up 69 hits, while its opponents have been limited to just 24. At the plate, the Berg is hitting .404 as a team.
 
The Berg scattered 12 runs through the first eight innings and held a 12-1 advantage. Eight runs were added to the scoreboard for Heidelberg in its last at bat. Highlighting the eight-run ninth was two RBI doubles to center  field from Dan Harder (Brighton, Ohio / Brighton) and Jack Bault (Randolph, Ohio / Waterloo), while Travis McClarney (Mt. Vernon, Ind. / Reitz) knocked in two runs on a single to left field.
 
Picking up two hits on the day was Bault, Gar Keen (Sparta, Ohio / Highland), McClarney and Willie Brechun (Canton, Ohio / Canton Central Catholic). Brechun knocked in three runs and finished with a home run.
 
Jake Gossman (Westerville, Ohio / South) got the start and threw 5.2 innings to earn the win. Gossman gave up just three hits, while striking out 10. SophomoreMitch Jones (Dayton, Ohio / Oakwood) made an appearance in relief, throwing 1.1 innings and not allowing a hit. Bryan Hartman (Circleville, Ohio / Logan Elm) controlled the mound in the eighth inning and picked up two strikeouts and gave up just one hit and an earned run. Closing out the game and making his first collegiate appearance was Elvin Williams (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid). Williams faced just three batters and had one strike out.
 
Heidelberg, under the guidance of 10th-year head coach Matt Palm, continues its trek down south against Winona State tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 1:30 p.m.
