Heidelberg Tops Bluffton, 5-2

The no. 5 Heidelberg University baseball team posted a 5-2 win over Bluffton University at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. The win improves Heidelberg to 5-1 on the year.
 
Jeremy Wentworth (Jamestown, Ohio / St. Charles) and Gar Keen (Sparta, Ohio / Highland) got things started with base hits. Wentworth was eventually thrown out at third, but Keen rounded the bases to score on an Alex Monroe (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) RBI single.
 
Heidelberg tacked on two more runs in the second with two outs and two runners on. Wentworth knocked a triple to score Biagio Boytim (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and J.J. Ciennik (Waterford, Mich. / Waterford Mott).
 
The Berg added another run in the fourth and was held scoreless the remainder of the contest. 
 
Bluffton scored its first run off of Heidelberg starter Nathan James (Rockport, Ind. / South Spencer) and added a second in the eighth off of reliever Eric Biggs (Dayton, Ohio / Dayton Christian).
 
In his first collegiate start James threw 6.1 innings, and struck out one to earn the win. Freshman Elvin Williams (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid) finished the seventh inning. Williams reached the mound with two on and one out. He struck out two to end Bluffton’s threat. Closer Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) finished the game in the ninth and had one strike out.
 
At the plate, Wentworth went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI to lead the Berg offense.
