'Berg Posts 14-2 Win Over Mt. St. Joseph

The Heidelberg University baseball team, under the guidance of 10th-year head coach Matt Palm, improved to 6-1 on the year with a 14-2 victory over Mount St. Joseph College at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla.
 
Heidelberg, ranked fifth in the nation according to D3baseball.com, overcame a slow start through two innings, and broke a scoreless tie with a run in the third inning. The Berg went on to score at least two runs in the next six straight innings. Mount St. Joseph’s scored its first run in the sixth and added another in the eighth.
 
Throwing 7.0 innings and picking up the win was senior left-hander David Paddock (Westerville, Ohio / North). Paddock gave up six hits and one earned run, while striking out four. The win is the second for the senior at the Snowbird Classic.
 
Pitching the seventh inning and giving up one earned run was Mitch Jones (Dayton, Ohio / Oakwood), while Branden Stucky (Medina, Ohio / Medina) closed out the contest in the ninth. Stucky finished with two strike outs.
 
Going 3-for-3 at the plate was Biagio Boytim (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick). He also added three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Also picking up three hits was Jeremy Wentworth (Jamestown, Ohio / St. Charles) and Steve Decker (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield). Wentworth also had two stolen bases and a run scored, while one of his hits was a triple. Decker was multi-faceted in his role at the plate on the day. He was 3-for-4 with a double and a sacrifice bunt, along three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
 
Heidelberg returns to action tomorrow with a doubleheader with fellow nationally ranked foe the College of Wooster. First pitch is slated for noon.
