Paddock Tabbed OAC Pitcher of the Week
Senior left handed pitcher David Paddock (Westerville, Ohio / North) of the Heidelberg University baseball team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 16, 2009. It is the first weekly honor handed out by the league office for the 2009 season.
Heidelberg is ranked sixth in the nation according to D3baseball.com and boasts an overall record of 10-2 following its Spring Break trip down south. The Berg posted an 8-2 mark at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. and swept a two-game series at Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga. over the course of the last two weeks.
A large part of the early success for the Berg has been the arm of Paddock. He posted a 3-0 record in three appearances on the mound. In 24.0 innings pitched, Paddock gave up 22 hits, while striking out 21. He allowed just one earned run.
Heidelberg opened its season with a 22-0 win over John Jay College at the Snowbird Classic. Leading the effort was a career-high 11 strike out performance by Paddock. In 8.0 innings of work he allowed nine hits, including just one extra base hit.
Paddock picked up his second victory on the year in a 14-2 win over Mount St. Joseph’s March 7. Paddock went 7.0 innings and gave up six hits and one earned run.
Paddock got the call in game one at Piedmont March 12 and did not disappoint. He threw a complete game and earned the shutout victory in a 4-0 game. Paddock allowed just seven hits, while striking out six.
Heidelberg, under the guidance of 10th-year head coach Matt Palm, returns to action tomorrow, March 17, at Bluffton University in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference contest. The Berg also travels to Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday, March 18, before hosting Marietta College on Saturday in the OAC opener for both institutions.
