Baseball Returns to Win Column at Denison

The no. 12th ranked Heidelberg University baseball team improved to 12-5 overall on the year following an 11-6 victory at Denison University tonight. Denison falls to 9-6.
 
Heidelberg and Denison played to a 4-4 tie through six innings before the Berg ignited for seven runs over the final three innings compared to just two by the host institution.
 
In the seventh inning, the Berg plated three unearned runs. L.B. Emrhein (Seven Hills, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) and Matt Grassley (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) both scored on Denison miscues, while Biagio Boytim (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) reached the base path on an error and eventually stole home.
 
The Berg added three more runs in the eighth courtesy of Emrehin’s hit by pitch that he drew with the bases loaded and a two RBI single through the left side by Boytim.
 
Another insurance run was added in its final at bat. Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) knocked in Steve Decker (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield), who reached on a single to left center field.
 
Earning his first collegiate win on the mound was Elvin Williams (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid). Williams threw 3.0 innings of relief and scattered four hits, while striking out two. He gave up three runs, two earned.
 
For the game, Heidelberg finished with 15 hits, while Denison had 13. Boytim went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Registering two hits apiece in the scorebook was Lash, Derek Andrzejczak (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview), Grassley and Decker.
 
Heidelberg continues non-conference action tomorrow at Case Western Reserve University. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m.
