'Berg Wins Second Straight on the Road

The no. 12 Heidelberg University baseball team built a 7-0 advantage after two innings and never looked back in a 21-2 victory at Case Western Reserve University. Heidelberg improves to 13-5 on the year, while Case Western falls to 6-13.
 
After being held scoreless in the third, the Berg reeled off seven runs over the next two innings to double its lead. Once again, Case Western held the Berg scoreless for an inning before the Berg finished off its scoring with seven more runs in its next two at bats. Case Western plated a run apiece in the fifth and eighth innings.
 
For the game, Heidelberg registered 24 hits, while its pitching staff held the hosts to six. Senior first baseman Biagio Boytim (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) led the way for the Berg hitting 4-for-4 with five runs batted in and two runs scored. He finished with a double and a bases clearing triple in the fifth.
 
Finishing the day 3-for-4 at the plate were sophomores Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville), Gar Keen (Sparta, Ohio / Highland) and Willie Brechun (Canton, Ohio / Canton Central Catholic). Lash scored three runs, while Keen had two runs scored and Brechun knocked in two. Picking up two hits on the day was Steve Decker (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield) and Elvin Williams (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid). Decker had a double and Williams had an inside the park grand slam in the eighth inning.
 
Earning the win was sophomore starter Nathan James (Rockport, Ind. / South Spencer). He threw a three-hitter through five innings and gave up just one earned run. Along the way he struck out four. The win improves James to 3-0 on the year.
 
Heidelberg resumes its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule at Muskingum College on Saturday, March 28 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
