Three Pick Up Academic All-District Honors

The Heidelberg University baseball team has three representatives on the 2009 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 4 College Division Team. Leading the way is first team recipient senior Biagio Boytim (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), along with second team honorees junior Steve Decker (Maumee, Ohio / Springfield) and sophomore Jason Lash (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville).
 
Boytim received his degree in chemistry from Heidelberg on Saturday. He carried a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 and graduated cum laude. His first team honors earns him a spot on the national ballot for Academic All-American honors. At the plate for the Berg, Boytim stands second on the team with a .394 batting average and 12 doubles, while ranking third with 61 hits and 47 runs scored. Defensively he leads the Berg with 307 putouts, while adding 19 assists. He boasts a fielding percentage of .991.
 
Decker is a business administration major and has a 3.51 gpa. He is a mainstay behind the plate, where he has a .988 field percentage and has thrown out 11 would be base stealers. Offensively, Decker has came into his own this season, batting a .347 with 50 hits, 34 runs scored and 33 runs batted in.
 
Lash boasts a grade point average of 3.55 as a chemistry major. For the year, he is 60-for-169 at the plate for a .355 batting average. He has 21 extra base hits, including five home runs. In the field, Lash is a two-year starter at short stop and in his second year he has a .941 fielding percentage with 110 assists and 50 put outs.
 
Heidelberg stands at 36-7 on the year and has swept the Ohio Athletic Conference titles for the second-straight year. Overall Heidelberg has won four league regular season titles and three tournament trophies. The Berg is awaiting the announcement of its opponents for the NCAA Division III Regionals, which it earned an automatic bid to by virtue of its tournament championship.
