The postseason honors continue to accumulate for the nationally ranked Heidelberg University baseball team. Sophomore closer Andy Lowe (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) was named a D3baseball.com Second Team All-American, while fellow classmate second baseman Gar Keen (Sparta, Ohio /Highland) was an Honorable Mention All-American.

Lowe and Keen’s honors are the first Heidelberg All-Americans as selected by D3baseball.com. In the history of the program the duo will join American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Americans Kyle Bachman (1991), Jon Hatfield (2003), A.J. Schela (2006) and Jeremy Wentworth (2008).

In 2009, Lowe was tabbed the Ohio Athletic Conference’s Kent Tekulve Pitcher of the Year, while picking up his second-straight all-league nod. Lowe was also named to the Mideast Region First Team by the ABCA. In just two seasons Lowe has set a new career record for saves at 18, highlighted by nine saves apiece in each season. His nine saves sits atop the single-season save list. Lowe led the team, and the OAC, along with ranking among the best in the nation with a 1.34 earned run average. His ERA also set a new single-season record at the Berg. He finished with a 3-1 record and made 27 appearances on the year. Lowe led the team for the second-straight year in opponent’s batting average (.191) and was second with 61 strike outs.

Providing solid at bats and a strong defensive presence for the Berg over the last two years has been Keen. His All-American recognition joins his selection to both the OAC and Mideast Region First Teams. This year he led the team, and set a new single-season record, with 61 runs batted in. Keen also led the team with 27 extra base hits, highlighted by a team-leading 17 doubles and eight home runs. Heidelberg, under the guidance of 10th-year head coach Matt Palm, eclipsed the 30-win plateau for the fifth time after posting a 37-9 record. The program won its fourth OAC Regular Season title (2003, 2007, 2008, 2009) and its third OAC Tournament Championship (2004, 2008, 2009), while making an appearance in the NCAA Regionals for the third time (2004, 2008, 2009).
