Otterbein Tops Marietta, 18-10
The second day of the 2009 OAC Baseball Tournament kicked off Friday afternoon at Tiffin, Ohio (Peaceful Valley) with Marietta College versus Otterbein College. Otterbein out lasted Marietta with an 18-10 win. The win improved Otterbein to 23-15 while Marietta dropped to 27-14.
Marietta had a strong fifth inning bringing home seven runs to cut its deficit to one, 10-9. Chris Beatty hit a two-run homerun during the rally.
Otterbein sealed the deal when they stacked on four insurance runs in the seventh inning when Brandon Gessner hit a two-run RBI double advancing Elliott Greenhill and Dan Lassak. Kyle Stoughton and Tyler Rudman both contributed with an RBI, respectively.
It was a strong outing from both teams as they combined for 37 hits, with Otterbein leading 20-17. Eight of the nine Otterbein players had multiple hits while Marietta’s Cameron Cimino had a game-high four hits.
Otterbein’s Alex Hayes (5-2) gets the win while Marietta’s Brian Gasser drops to 5-3.
