Joe Puch, a 2012 Marietta College graduate, understands how to compete in the physical Ohio Athletic Conference. As a Pioneer, Puch was named the team’s best defensive player for all four years. In 2011, he helped bring Marietta its first-ever OAC tournament title and first regular season crown in 36 years. That season, the Pioneers advanced to the Sweet 16.
Puch and his ’12 classmates finished with 66 wins, the most by a graduating class in Marietta’s history.
"Joe was a big part of our quick turn-around at Marietta, so he understands the process of rebuilding a program having been through it as a player and coach,” said head coach Andy Bucheit. “He will be an invaluable resource for our players to tap into as we build Heidelberg basketball into a national competitor."
Puch worked as a volunteer assistant in Marietta for the 2012-13 season, where he coached with Bucheit.
In his first year at Heidelberg, Puch is pursuing his master's degree.
