ALMA, Mich.- Despite a career-high 30 points from senior forward Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers), Heidelberg University lost its first game of the season on Sunday. Alma College defeated the Student Princes 69-66, to wrap up the Alma College Thanksgiving Classic.
Heidelberg (3-1) struggled with free throws and three-point shooting, as they finished 50% at the stripe and 15.4% from beyond the arc.
In a game in which neither team led by more than six points, the Student Princes led by a point at halftime. During a back-and-forth second half, Alma (1-3) regained the lead with under two minutes to play. Heidelberg had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but two three-point shots from Mike Petrie (Columbus/Beechcroft) rattled out.
Freshman Jackson Blue (West Chester/Lakota West) was the only other Heidelberg player in double-figures, as he finished with 10 points.
Davis was named to the All-Tournament team, as he finished averaged 20.5 points and seven rebounds for the weekend.
Heidelberg returns to action at home against Albion College on Wednesday. Tip-off in Seiberling Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
