The Heidelberg University men’s basketball team opened up its 2009-10 campaign tonight at the Al Van Rie Rotary Tournament hosted by the College of Wooster. Heidelberg suffered a 92-55 setback to St. Thomas (Minn.) in game one of the tournament.
Senior Jim Smalley (Middleburg Heights, Ohio / Midpark) led three in double figures with 16 points, to go along with three rebounds. Josh Calver (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) had 11 points followed by Travis Kinn (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) with 10.
In his first collegiate appearance and start, freshman Adrian Casey Jr. (Lorain, Ohio / Lorain Admiral King) finished with a team-high eight rebounds, to go along with two points.
Heidelberg continues at the tournament tomorrow and will face either the host Scots or Carnegie Mellon University at 6:00 p.m. in the consolation game.
