Pittsburgh, Pa. – November 28, 2009 - The Heidelberg University men’s basketball team finished strong and convincingly as they beat Carnegie Mellon University 74-60 for their second-straight victory. The Berg’s win improves their record to 2-2, while Carnegie Mellon drops to 1-3 on the season.
It was a back and forth contest for the first 10 minutes of play until freshman Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) ignited the Berg’s momentum with a fast break dunk, putting Heidelberg on top by eight.
Heidelberg had a 35-29 lead going into halftime.
Carnegie Mellon would take the lead early in the second half but it wouldn’t last long. Heidelberg recaptured the lead when senior Travis Kinn (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) scored on a fast break layup making the score 44-42. The Berg would never look back.
Leading Heidelberg offensively was Josh Calver (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) scoring a game-high 17 points, including 10-12 from the line. Kinn followed with 12 points along with four rebounds and two assists.
Heidelberg advances in the Radisson/Carnegie Mellon Invite, and will compete tomorrow Sunday, Nov. 29, when they face Manhattanville College starting at 1:00 p.m.
