Tiffin, Ohio – February 13, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s basketball team was outscored 11-4 over the final 3:16 of the game and suffered a 70-66 setback at the hands of Wilmington College today, February 13, 2010. The game was played at Fred Raizk Arena, on the campus of Wilmington.
The win improves the Quakers to 16-7 overall and 11-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Berg falls to 12-11 for the year and 8-8 against league foes.
Travis Kinn (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) gave Heidelberg its first lead of the game, 12-10, with 12:20 to play in the first half. Heidelberg extended its lead to eight points, 27-19, following a John Miller (Millersburg, Ohio / West Holmes) trey. Josh Calver (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) hit two free throws with two seconds on the clock to give the Berg a 33-29 lead at halftime.
Heidelberg maintained its lead in the second half, pushing it back to eight points on two occasions. The Quakers responded with an 11-4 run to close out the game and sneak out the victory.
For the game, Heidelberg connected on 27-of-65 shots from the field (.415), while Wilmington hit 29-of-64 (.453). The Berg held a slim 41-40 advantage on the glass.
Calver and Kinn led three players in double figures for the Berg with 12 points apiece. Kinn also hauled in seven rebounds. Jim Smalley (Middleburg Heights, Ohio / Midpark) came off the bench to register 11 points.
Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) led the way on the glass with nine boards, while Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Harvest Preparatory) finished with six points and six rebounds.
Tyler White led four players in double figures for Wilmington with a game-high 20 points, while Brandon Rogers had eight rebounds.
